Only 4 days left until I have finished my first 60 days of Hammer and Chisel. I opted out of Thursday rest day so that I can get the maximum benefit out of my last few days. I got down and dirty with some Hammer Conditioning this morning and was reflecting on the past couple of months.

First, I can’t believe that it has been almost 60 days! Second, I am somewhat proud of myself for hanging in there and finishing strong (well, as long as I complete the next three days).

I wasn’t perfect throughout this program, I skipped days here and there, ate things occasionally that I wasn’t “technically” supposed to, and felt frustrated at times because my scale wasn’t moving or I could still see the dimples on my ass. Lol- yes we all have them!

There were times when I wanted to give up and take the easy way out. But I didn’t! I trusted in the program and kept telling myself, “Change doesn’t happen overnight!”, “Focus on the changes you see in your body, not the change you DON’T see on the scale!” and all kinds of other quotes and mantras I could think of.

All too often I hear from my challengers a week or two after starting a new program that they are frustrated because they haven’t lost any weight, or worse, they have gained weight. They thought that the weight would melt off faster and they would see progress sooner. I just keep reminding them exactly what I remind myself on a daily basis, CHANGE DOESN’T HAPPEN OVER NIGHT! TRUST THE PROCESS! STICK IT OUT! Everyone struggles with the same doubts and frustrations, but the people that succeed are the ones that show up everyday despite the downfalls and the failures.

By fueling your body with dense nutrition and exercising daily, you are making changes within you every single day, both physically and mentally, whether you can see it or feel it in the beginning or not. Keep on showing up! Trust me! You will be glad you did!

Shakeology for breakfast… Why???

Guys! I was making my Shakeology this morning for breakfast and as I was blending it I was rattling off in my head all the reasons why I love this {Miracle} shake. And I don’t use the word {Miracle} lightly. LOL. But in all seriousness, Shakeology has completely changed the way I do breakfast and so much more. There is SO much I love about Shakeology and I just wanted to share with those who are struggling to find the IDEAL breakfast solution.

How many of you skip breakfast more often than not because you are running out the door trying to get your kids off to school and then yourself to work. You allow yourself enough time in the mornings to make breakfast for the kiddos, because let’s face it, your kids HAVE to eat, and then you grab a cup of coffee for yourself and out the door you go. But what about YOU???

Your kids have full bellies and are off to school and you even managed to get yourself to work on time. SCORE! Or so you think… until you realize that it is 9:30 am and you have been up for 3+ hours and have put nothing of nutritional value in to your body. Unless you are counting the cup of coffee you managed to choke down on the car ride to school.

SO BAD FOR YOU!!! We all know this right? But knowing that something is bad for us doesn’t make it any easier for us to change what we are doing, especially when we feel like we can’t possibly add anything else to our plates.

 Let’s talk about WHY you should never skip breakfast…

Lack of Energy- Without putting healthy calories in your body for energy within an hour of waking, your body may not have enough energy to perform daily functions. Your body then begins to use energy stored as glucose from your tissues. This in turn will cause you to feel tired and lethargic. “Mid-morning slump” much???

Increased Hunger- Well this is a no-brainer!!! If you don’t eat, you will probably get hungry ;-). The longer you wait, the more hungry you get. And the more hungry you get, the more likely you are to reach for that unhealthy snack. It’s kinda like the book “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie”… Right??

Drop in Metabolism– Your body is designed to survive no matter what is thrown at it. If you stop eating, or don’t eat for hours at a time your metabolism slows down to conserve energy. So if you skip breakfast and then eat a large lunch (because likely you will be starving by then), the food that you do eventually take in is not burned off at an efficient rate.

Now that we know WHY skipping breakfast is {BAD NEWS}… WHAT can you do you do about it?

EAT BREAKFAST!!

I know… It’s not as easy as it sounds. Making sure that you eat a healthy, well balanced, breakfast every morning means extra time, planning, preparation… Whoa… Hold up! That’s too much!

My Beachbody Transformation

“A picture is worth a thousand words”

To me, the difference seen in this picture is more than just the obvious. Yes 5 years have gone by, my baby is no longer a baby, my hair is a different shade of blonde😉, and so on… But the change that I see in this picture is not necessarily the obvious physical changes, but the changes that have taken place within my self over the past 5 years.

The picture on the left is of my first born son, Caleb, and myself when he was almost 9 months old. At this time I was working the over-night shift as a full time RN in the NICU 4 nights a week. On the nights that I would work I would leave my house at 6:30 pm not returning home until 8:00 the next morning. So many thing took place in my son’s life during those hours that I was gone including bath time, story time, bedtime, waking up and getting off to daycare.
My passion for taking care of miniature people and advocating for the rights of those that don’t have a voice of their own was alive as ever. I had no intention of ever quitting my job as an RN. But I would be lying if I told you that I wasn’t resentful that I was missing out on those special moments at home with Caleb and Andrew.
Long story short… I continued to work as a nurse for the next few years until after my second boy was born. Once I had two little boys running around, and my husbands works schedule became more demanding, we decided that me staying home with the boys was the best thing for our family.
I quit my job and became a full time SAHM. At first it was great! I got to spend ALL my time with the boys and devoted myself to taking care of my family. But over time, I started to feel like something was missing. I knew in my heart that even though I loved being at home with my kids, I was just not cut out to be a full time SAHM. But I also knew that I couldn’t go back to my job as a nurse. I needed flexibility, freedom from working evenings, weekends, and holidays, and the ability to be on call for my family at all times.
So, I started on a dead end road trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life next. Needless to say I didn’t get very far.
In the mean time my best friend, Liz Love, approached me about joining her health and fitness accountability group. It was August of 2014 and Caleb was just about to start 4 year old preschool. It was just what I needed- something for me.
I started out doing the 21 Day Fix and drinking Shakeology daily. I began to see and feel changes in my body that I didn’t think were possible. Friends and family started asking what it was that I was doing and I couldn’t help but share with them this amazing program that had just fallen in my lap. They all hopped on the healthy train and joined Liz’s challenge group with me.
That was when Liz approached me about becoming a coach.  My initial though was, “No way! I could never do what you do. I know nothing about nutrition and fitness and why would anyone want me to be their coach anyway!?”  But that didn’t stop her from gently nudging ;-). Every week, or so, she would insert the coaching opportunity in to our phone conversations. Meanwhile, I was desperately searching for a “job” that I could do that would be flexible enough for me to be home in the evenings and on the weekends, but would still pay enough for it to be worth it.

I vividly remember the conversation that would change my life forever. I was just chatting with Liz and filling her in on my struggle to find that something that I was looking for. That something that would make me feel alive again. She listened to be from start to finish and then again said, “Gina, I just really think you should consider becoming a coach.”.  That was when it finally hit me and my attitude about coaching completely changed. All of sudden I had a fire lit inside of me and I just couldn’t sign up fast enough.  It was perfect, I was loving the 21 Day Fix so much, so why would I not try to help other women like me make a change to their mind and body for the better? So that was that and I haven’t looked back.

Fast forward 16 months to the photo on the right <3.  What can I say, other than the woman on the right is a completely changed person!  The woman in the picture on the right is inspired, excited about life, confident, and passionate.  She takes time for herself, found a career she loves, has the opportunity to travel for work to amazing places with amazing people, is building her own business and contributing financially to her family in a BIG way!!! In the last 16 months I have evolved in to a happier and healthier wife, mother, friend, leader, and above all, version of ME :-).

Sometimes I ask myself the question, “What if I would have ultimately said NO?”. I just cannot imagine my life with out Beachbody and coaching!!!

Since becoming a coach I have really had to step outside of my box, open up and become super vulnerable. This has been a real struggle for me in the last year. I haven’t always been someone that is okay with putting my life out there for the world to see. But when I made the decision to become a coach, I committed to putting myself out there and sharing my struggles and victories so that I could inspire other people like me to take that first step and make a change. After all, personal experience is what people relate to.

I have always been a person who values other peoples opinions, maybe a little too much. I worry about what people are thinking of me and more often than not, this can be crippling. Every time I share something on Facebook, invite people to join me in getting healthy, or present the coaching opportunity to someone who I think could inspire and change lives, I second-guess myself. I can’t tell you how many times I have deleted a post on FB or IG before hitting “post” because I am afraid of what one or two people will think. In fact, there is a chance I may delete this one…LOL!

For the past 12 months, this has been my biggest struggle. But, I just have to remember that my WHY for sharing about my fitness journey and the coaching opportunity is stronger than my fear of what people think. Not everyone is going to agree with what I am doing, and not everyone is going to have positive words to say. But in the end, those people will trickle out of my life, and the people who belong in my life will stay.

So… Be yourself, do your thing, believe in your mission, and be proud of what you are doing.

My Love of Shakeology

As I was preparing my Shakeology this morning, it occurred to me that I have been drinking Shakeology daily for over a year. So I started to mentally make note of what is different in my life at the present time compared to a year ago. So many things came to mind, but I tried to narrow my list down to one area of my life that Shakeology has really impacted.

All of my close friends and family know that I have suffered from severe gastro-esophageal reflux (heartburn) for the last 5 years. I could feel it start to come on in the evening and progressively get worse after I got into bed. I would toss and turn until I would have to get out of bed and vomit. These episodes would happen as often as once or even twice a week. I was taking daily prescription medication in addition to Zantac and Tums, as needed.

Once I started drinking Shakeology daily, and improved my eating habits, my bouts of heartburn started to decrease. I decided to try to stop taking my daily medication for heartburn. Just like that… my heartburn was gone. I haven’t had to take medication for my gastro-esophageal reflux for over 11 months and I haven’t had one episode of heartburn since I started drinking Shakeology. Wooohooo!!!!

I just wanted to share this tid-bit with all of you in-case you can relate. Shakeology is amazing in more ways than one and I LIVE by it!!!!
